My day started at 5:50 am on Tuesday when my alarm went off. I woke up put my bra on and brushed my teeth. I then got in the car with my mom. Before heading to TOSH we went to Jamespointe Apartments to pick up my mom's friend. [Apparently she needed a buddy to wait with her while I was knocked out.] After Kristie took 8 years to get in the car we headed to TOSH.
When we got to TOSH I had to check in. The registrar had all sorts of funny quotes around her window that we had a good time reading like, "if you start getting wrinkles, just eat more to fill them up." There was a bunch more, but I cannot think of any of them. I sat in the waiting room for probably only 5 minutes when they called me back.
Here, I went to pre-op where the CNA was my age (sooooo weird). I got butt-naked, peed in a cup and got my vital signs. Here is where the fun started: IV time. Good thing it took them 2 nurses, a phlebotomist, a doctor, an anesthesiologist AND 40 minutes to get it in.
I felt like a celebrity, there were SO many people in my room worried about me:)
Joy and phleb were up first. Unsuccessful, here is arm after.
Attempt #1
It looks bad here, but I assure you, it looks worse now.
Anesthesiologist was up next and went for the hand. I am not afraid of needles AT all, but man, the hand HURTS. So he numbs me (which didn't work at all p.s) and shoves the needle in. Goes in smooth and all except when he tries to flush it. He missed the vein and my hand was the size of China as it was filling up with fluid. OUCH. Third times the charm as he goes for my arm, right where it bends which is the worst place in history for an IV. Probably the most painful IV I've ever had, and I've had a few in my day.
After IV is in we're late for the OR so Dr. Momberger stops by to get the show on the road.
Dr. Momberger is THE best orthopedic surgeon EVER!
This is me on my way to the OR.
I remember lying up on the bed telling the staff to do their time-out. They probably hated me, but since I work in an OR, I needed to tell them what was up..just in case. I remember being way nervous, getting cold-feet if you will as I started thinking about waking up and how much I didn't want to do the recovery thing or get sick. But before I knew it I was awake in the recovery room talking to Emilee, my nurse. I kept telling her I worked in a recovery room and she kept telling me "I was the cutest thing ever." I remember the man next to me was annoying as Satan and I wanted to punch him because he was a whiny baby!
Higher than life right here:
I get up to my hotel room..er..hospital room and my mom, Kristie, and Sara await me.
This is my knarly bandage

This surgery went much smoother than righty in January at IMC. All my nurses and CNA's were so nice and helpful. The best part of my whole "trip" was this shirt I got:
I got lots of pretty flowers
This beautiful bouquet is from my new job at the hospital. It was very unexpected, but I am glad I got them nonetheless.
Sort of like a cast, everyone wanted to draw on my whiteboard
I stayed the night there and came home Wednesday after shower and lunch. I'm home doing mostly well. Just laying in bed, watching TONS of movies and, doing nutrition homework.
Special thanks to Sara and Mom for taking care of me. There is NO way I could recover without you.
