History Nerd.
So I'm a bit of a history nerd. I am fascinated by early America, The Salem Witch Trials, JFK's assassination, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, all of it. So when I saw an event titled "Titanic Gala" um OH HECK YA I'm there. I am fascinated by the Titanic. What I would give to have spent a night on that ship...while it was still afloat of course;)
The event was also a murder mystery and we learned traditional dances from the early 20th century. Of course everyone was dressed appropriately. Turns out the dance instructors husband is from Austria, meaning Er Deutsch gesproken (he spoke German)! I always feel very inept with my German, and that feeling only intensifies when people put me on the spot. Dominique kept telling me to talk to him, but I was soooo nervous. Well, I'm happy to report we had a full on conversation in perfect German (well perfect on his part, understandable on mine). He never corrected me and never asked me to repeat myself or clarify. Talk about gold star to the chest.
Man I have got to get over there..
Since me and Dominique went alone, often we danced with each other. It was 100% OK because the ginormous shoulder pads on her shirt were comfy!
We were all assigned an identity. All of the people we portrayed were actual passengers on the ship. At the end of the night they separated us into first class and 2nd or lower classes and we stared at each other from across the room. All the first class passengers (that were there) survived while all most of us (I was a servant) died. (I SURVIVED). We had a moment of silence and it was incredible. What a way to die. In the icy waters of the Atlantic. Sheesh!
I was Miss Mary Anne Perrault. She was a personal maid to a first class passenger, Clara Jennings Hays. Annie was Canadian. She met Bert Pickett in London while on business with Clara. Bert proposed to Annie and they planned to marry in the US as soon as Bert could make it over. Annie boarded the Titanic on it's way to New York.
Annie actually survived, though she was one of the last ones on a life boat. She made it back to Bert (I love happy endings)
You go girl, Bert is a handsome fella!!
She ended up having one child at 43. She died at age 90! I would have loved to actually meet Miss Perrault. I mean she survived the Titanic sinking. That is freaking bad ass. It's no wonder I was chosen to be Miss Mary Anne Perrault...:)
And now most all of you are bored to tears, but man I just spent HOURS reading about Mary Anne and loved it all. *Nerd alert*
I will leave you with pictures of me as Miss Perrault
