My sophomore year of high school I broke my nose. The "how" is not important, but the fact remains it broke, resulting in a deviated septum. I realize I actually have some friends (seriously not many) who are NOT nursing majors, so for those of you, that is the line that separates your two nostrils.

This is basically how my nose looks. As you can imagine it's a little difficult to move air through that maze. I can't wait to breathe again!
Usually after someone breaks their nose, they need septal repair surgery to fix their deviated septum. This was probably the case with me, but I never got surgery.
This past month especially, I have been getting "headaches" from Satan, seriously. When I say headache I mean the bridge of my nose and my eyebrows. Lucky for me I work with like 20 ENT's so I decided to hit up my favorite one for advice (Dr. Palmer, fyi). He suggested we do a CT scan of my sinus'. This all went down Tuesday.
Turns out, the prognosis is I have a severely deviated septum (no kidding), an extra nasal sinus which is causing the pressure to my nose and eyes, and a cyst in my maxillary sinus, good stuff. Basically one of my nostrils is a slit (think snake) and the other one is sort of normal. I'll post before and after photos once I have them.
Many of you believe that things, good or bad, happen in threes. Well this would be an example being as this is my 3rd surgery of 2010. Unfortunately, this will probably be the most miserable out of all the surgeries I've had, but it's completely necessary. My headaches are blinding, and I literally can't breathe well. I sleep horribly at night and wake up exhausted!
Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers October 13th. I will enjoy my Fall Break by most importantly breathing!!!:), and NOT studying for pathophysiology (because our test is the day before surgery).
Fall semester has been good to me, and I'm quite liking it. On my way to living my dreams!!!
