Don't you love learning new skills? I remember when I first started learning to type in 3rd grade. I thought it was so hard! I remember these typing games I used to play to help me learn to type, and I used to get soo frustrated when I couldn't get the combination of letters right. Eventually though, I got so good at typing! I even tested out of it in 7th grade because I was so fast:)
The purpose of that story is because I'm learning a new skill: piano! Yuuuup. I feel like I'm in 3rd grade learning to type. I have taken all of my pre-reqs except the two I am currently enrolled in, but I need a full time schedule, so that's where piano comes in. It's sort of intimidating because I have absolutely no musical background. The first thing my teacher said was "are you a music major?" No. "Are you a music minor?" No. "Then why are you taking this class?" Uh..I want to learn to play the piano. Weird, I know.. Not a pleasant first impression, but the class should be great!
I have learned middle C and and the next 4 chords after, and Jingle Bells. My skills are very limited, but I love that I can sit at the piano and put my fingers on the keys, push down and it makes a pleasant sound! I flipped through my book earlier and looked at all the songs I'm gonna learn. AHHH! I have wanted to play the piano my whoooooole life. We have never owned a piano nor had room for one, so that wasn't really an option so I am ecstatic that the opportunity presented itself now. I'm living the dream at Westminster College!!!!!!
I'll keep you updated on my journey through piano and possibly invite you to my recital where I will play my own piece I created! Happy Semester friends.
That is awesome! Seeing as I also have no musical talent what so ever, I'm so impressed that you're learning such a difficult instrument (but aren't they all? haha)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!!
That's way cool Lacy! I kinda did that too my senior year in high school by taking my beginning guitar class... way fun! Good luck :D
ReplyDeleteHey girlfriend. I still stalk your blog from time to time even though we don't have classes together anymore. Anyway, I had the deviated septum surgery a few years ago....not fun. Also who's your piano teacher? If it's my dad, I'm sorry. :)
